The National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology and History of Peru is the oldest museum in Peru. It was founded in 1822 by José Bernardo de Tagle, Bernardo de Monteagudo and Mariano Eduardo de Rivero and Ustariz, who assumed the task of installing the project of the National Museum of Peru in 1826. Located in the district of Pueblo Libre in the city of Lima, The museum has a huge variety of historical cultural objects of Peruvian civilization. The importance and quality of the objects that are on display and that are stored in its museographic reserves make it the most important museum in Peru. Among its most important treasures are the Crossed Hands of Kotosh, the Stela Raimondi of Chavin, the Obelisco Tello, the Mantos of Paracas, and various paintings from the Viceroyal period, mainly from the Cuzco School of Painting.
It is the first museum of Peru; the largest, oldest and most representative of our country. It was the only one that had Peru in the first hundred years of the Republic.
